Here is Wes with his parents before his graduation from Fresno State in 1987. It was a wild ceremony from the get go. They seated the graduates by departments on the football feild. Wes sat with the Math Department and they were pretty calm compared to the the nursing department. They started drinking champagne as soon as it started. When a bottle was emptied, they would shove it into the grass and cheer. I couldn't help but wonder what his parents thought, as they had only been to his brothers graduations at BYU. We left Keith with a babysitter and that was an excellent call. They did not walk up and get diploma, rather were called by departments then stood and as if by magic, they were done.
This is me with my parents on my graduation day in 2006 from CSU Stanislaus. It was a relatively quiet ceremony with a few beach balls. Everyone received a diploma and it took a few hours to get through it. We had 5 children and I didn't invite them. It started at 8am on a Saturday morning in June. It lasted forever and by the time it ended it was hot. They would have been bored to tears.
Courtney is my daughter in law. She graduated from BYU in Provo yesterday. They had a very reverent ceremony one day and then they meet as departments yesterday and had them walk up and get their diploma. It focused on joy, gratitude and hard work. At the first ceremony they had 2,400 graduates. I would guess there were at least 300 children under the age of 3 that belonged to them. Apparently, not one of them was left with a babysitter.
College graduation is so hard to achieve, yet so rewarding. I hope to add to these pictures in the future.
