Vacation Quilts

No trip is complete without a couple of quilts to look at. This one is Miss Lizzie's. I love it. If she gets tired of it, she can always ship it my way.The next quilts were on display at the California Trail Interpretive Center in Nevada. Antique quilts are so amazing because quilting may be the only thing I have in common with my ancestors. They are also very hard to find, because they were used, just like mine. Enjoy
All of these quilts were made between 1890-1930's.
This one was in pristine condition. The fabrics are from feed sacks and if you look, you can find the reproductions in most quilt shops.

This is a 9 patch. I am always amazed at what you can create with a 9 patch.
I would love one of these machines.
I love crazy quilts. It is a history of some many things.
And here is one more.
I am sad/happy to say that I did not get to a place that sold fabric. I have been so busy that I have not had time to quilt. However, a visit to a quilt store always brightens my day.

Spring Break 2011

I was ready for a trip to California. It has been about 18 months. I was sitting outside on a nice afternoon, when I looked over and saw this. Just for the record, most of those oranges are now sitting up stairs. Here we are hanging out with Grandma.
Then we went to Fort Bragg. The sun was up, so we stopped at the grocery store and bought some food for a picnic. This is our view. Nothing taste as good as meat and cheese sandwich when you are looking out on the Pacific.

Here is r in the belly of a whale.
There is some history of another one of our boys taking a nap on this table. Not really sure why.
We went to Glass beach in the rain...hey, we always go to glass beach in the rain.
I love how nature has turned this garbage into something beautiful.
Taking a walk.
We stopped at this beach because we could get to it.
And look what we found! I thought mine was awesome and then r found a huge one.
We had dinner at Capt'n Flints, a great place to take you family on the wharf. It was a great couple of days at the beach.

Still Sewing

I made this dress for ls and finished it all in one day except for the zipper. When I went to put the zipper in, it was the wrong size. Mental note: do not buy zippers at Wal*mart, they are always in the wrong place. So I finally made it into Hancocks and picked up a zipper. It went right in. It always is such a pleasant surprise!
By the way, our hospice quilt went for $850 this year.

Snowmen

Every year after Christmas, I put out all the snowmen that I have collected over the years. The other day on the radio, I heard someone say that it was a few days until Spring. I would have never noticed. So I took this morning to put away all the snowmen. I decided to keep these guys out however, because since I put them out, we have not had much snow. Maybe they are Scare-snowmen. I hope so!
