Blessings in 2025

Image
I always like to look back on the year and find my favorites. Hands down the best part of this year was the fact that there were no family funerals but a few beautiful family weddings.  I love having Betty. She's joy to my heart.  Watching my friend J'lene solider through cancer treatments has been terrifying and inspiring. She is at the end of a long road and is doing so much better. What a great party in Palm Springs. Love Chrissy and Stiles.  Watching Richard's hooding was the end of an era. Last kid to finish college.  Having my kids together is always a blessing.  The Canadian Rockies are simply amazing. Loved this hike with my little Canadians.  Getting together with Scott, Bruce and Stephanie Killpack was a delight.  Loved my retirement party with the grands. I love retirement.  Being in the Tabernacle the morning after President N...

Christmas

Image
I hope you all had a Merry Christmas.  We did even if it looks different than in the past. Scott performed a couple of songs for Christmas Eve. It nice to have the technology to be together as a family and yet be many miles apart.  I made my traditional Christmas breakfast. We used to have so many around the table. I'm grateful for Scott and Wes. With just three, it's an easy clean up.  Richard got engaged. We went to Kuna to see Betty and her parents.  The next day was her birthday. What a blessing she is to our family.  She's a good sleeper, she's healthy and happy.  Seriously, she is just joy. I'm so glad that Callie finally decided it was time....I did mention that to her two years ago in Florida. She will always be a blessing to them. Callie calls me all the time so I get to see her and make her smile. Pat-a-cake is such a pleasure.  Merry Christmas.......

Crazy Weather

This snow was short lived, but a welcome sight. It was our first snow and it was gone by morning. Earlier in the week I walked the canyon without a jacket.  It was a beautiful day in the high 50's. I usually try and walk it every Fall but hadn't. Not sure why. It was a good walk even if a weird man talked to me. I've loved this warm weather.  The next day we had a massive wind storm . At one point I came up and wondered about our neighbors dead tree. When I looked I couldn't find it. It had blown over. Everything was okay, they just had a ginormus tree in their yard.  The next day I was cleaning up some leaves that had blown into the carport and it got really cold. I thought, I think it's going to snow, and sure enough, it did.  With the crazy weather, it had not felt like Christmas so I started my tradition of watching the Christmas episoded of ER. It helps. I've wrapped and sent all the gifts. I'v...

Alone

Image
Since I retired, I have spent most days with Scott. He was working from home and then he quit to be a Substitute Teacher. No one could have predicted that the district would have such a slow hiring process. But Scott worked every day this week and I was finally alone.  It was glorious. He is very easy to work with, but I love hanging around the house by myself.  I finished my Christmas decorations.  We had a beautiful sunset one night.  The cat loves the Christmas tree. We went as a family to buy for Toys for Tots and then came home and watched A Charlie Brown Christmas.  I took my dad's beautiful cousin to lunch. She celebrated her 97th birthday this week. She is my hero. We can talk for hours about politics and education. I want to grow up to be like her.  And I received my Betty ornament in the mail.  So darn cute.  I also delivered a donation to a non profit bl...

Home Sweet Home

I guess June had it right when she stood by the window and said, It's going to snow. I know it's going to snow.'  It didn't start until 6:30 am, but it came down fast and by noon there was six inches. This is the Kansas Turnpike. Lots of slide offs and crews trying to keep up, but a very messy drive to the airport.  The airport was mess. There were many delays and cancellations making for unhappy people. We boarded our plane at a pretty good time but there was no crew to load luggage so we sat on the tarmack for an hour before we were able to take off.  So we missed our flight in Salt Lake.  I found a hotel and figured out how to use the Lyft app that Callie had helped me install when I went to North Carolina alone.  The next day we waited around for an 1:30  flight in a very quiet airport. We finally got home about 3:00. Long , long trip home.  On Sunday, while in Kansas I was asked to sub on Wednesday a...
