Let's Have a Look-See

Well, it has been two weeks since I let the doctor cut into my neck and although I feel better than I did before, the sewing is slow. Here are the pillow shames that go with the quilt that is at The Quilt Barn, being quilted. It should be done any time. This is my round robin from my quilting group. Now that these are done, I am not sure what I will do to occupy myself. Hand quilting has certainly kept me busy. I do have some cross stitch and although it has been a while since I picked it up, it would help me pass the time.

I love the 1930's reproductions. They make me smile. So while I was trying to figure out what to do with this, my round robin... I decided to make this. Now I know that not everyone likes the Hankie quilts, but I had a grandmother who crocheted around hankies, like I crochet around receiving blankets. I have enough fabric and hankies to make two more. They all have a home.

They are finished. My quilting group started this round robin project. It turned out to be quit a challenge. We had two groups. Most of these quilts started out as a 12" block. This group had smaller projects. Here is Sharon's. And here is mine. Both of these are going to be wall hangings. This is Mary's. It did not have any fabric in the box, so it was tricky. This is a table runner. 13 x 82. And here is Norma's. She wanted it to be a wall hanging, but it turned out pretty big. And here is her sister's Reama's. She is going to make it bigger as she has 4 more horses for corner pieces. This one turned out very nice. Here we have the other groups quilts. This one is Sharons. Okay, I have a hard time not saying what I think. I think this is ugly and I am sending it to Liz--good luck! When this started, I really didn't like it either, but I love what has been done so far. I think I am going to appliqué horse shoes on it.

First, let me say that I have been so busy with subbing and working for the Census. Don't get me wrong, I love to work. I really enjoy doing the Census. My only regret is that I can't share some really great stories, because it is all confidential. But I am getting plenty of use out of my 30 words of Spanish Vocabulary. Now, on to the Round Robin project. This what Liz did and I love it, as did my group. Here is what I did. I was trying to bring out the mountains. I can't wait to see what this one will look like when we finish, because it has some really different colors in it. As for the rest of my day.... I need to make muffins, do the wash and I hate to say it, do some Census work. When I remembered that there was a band concert, I told Wes, he would have to handle it, because the best time to get people home is after dinner. That is true and the fact that Jerome has the worst band concerts I have ever heard makes it easy for me to work tonight.

Liz did an amazing job and it was a hit at the meeting today. I think this is weird, but they liked it. One of the amazing things about working with a group of quilters is that they are so supportive.

This is the block that I get to put a boarder on this month. There was no fabric to go with it, and she wants it to be scrappy. I have an idea and will post it later. This is the one that I sent to Liz. She had a box full of fabric and I think it will be beautiful, no matter what is done to it.

My quilting group is starting a new group project today. It is a Round Robin. For those of you who are unfamiliar with a Round Robin, I will tell you a few of the ground rules. Everyone has a box and it has in it, a center block with some fabrics to add to it. Every month the project is passed to a new quilter, who uses their creative genies to put a boarder on the project. When it is done it will be a finished quilt top. We have two groups of 6, so we will not be done for 6 months. It is a little scary working on someone else's project, but I think the results will be amazing. As I was getting mine ready, I thought, "I want Liz to put on the last boarder." Then I went crazy and invited her to join our group. Since she is in California and I, here, in the frozen tundra of Idaho, we will have to rely on the postal service, but I was thrilled when she joined.
